Prof. Dr Didem Özçimen, a faculty member of our department, has been the recipient of the 2020 TÜBA-GEBİP (Outstanding Young Scientist Award) from the Turkish Academy of Sciences for her polar studies. We would like to thank our Professor for having made the name of our Department well known by winning such an important award. We congratulate him and wish him continued success.

Prof. Dr. Didem Özçimen began her academic studies in 2001 as a research assistant at Istanbul Technical University, Department of Chemical Engineering. She completed her M.Sc. and Ph.D. studies at the same university and department. Since 2009, Prof. Dr Didem Özçimen has been working at Yıldız Technical University, Department of Bioengineering and is also the Vice Dean of YTU Faculty of Chemistry and Metallurgy. Prof. Dr. Didem Özçimen, who has carried out scientific studies at various universities and research institutes abroad, has worked on renewable energy, biofuels, bioeconomy, bioprocesses, microalgae and biotechnological applications, and in recent years has mainly worked on Antarctic microalgae. In the Algal Biotechnology and Bioprocessing Laboratory, which he founded, he and his team have isolated new algal and bacterial cultures from the poles and continue to investigate the biotechnological applications of the identified microalgae species and their transformation into biotechnological products.
