How can I log in to the OBS system?
Course registration is done through OBS (https://obs.yildiz.edu.tr/oibs/ogrenci/login.aspx) using your username and password.
Where can I get my OBS password?
You can obtain your OBS password by following the instructions. If you encounter any issues, please contact the department.
How do I register for a class in the OBS system?
After logging into the OBS system at https://obs.yildiz.edu.tr/oibs/ogrenci/login.aspx, you can complete the registration by following the steps in the instructions.
I’m having trouble registering for a course—what steps should I follow?
If you encounter any issues, please first contact the department staff responsible for course registration. If you are unable to resolve the issue, you can email your concerns to obs@yildiz.edu.tr or obsderskayit@yildiz.edu.tr.
How can I verify that I’ve registered for a course correctly?
After completing your course registration, you should first click the “Check” button to verify there are no errors. If you do not encounter any issues, you can click the “Confirm” button to finalize your course registration. After the “Confirm” step, students will not be able to add or drop courses outside of the “Independent Course Registration” period.
Your course registration will then be submitted to your advisor for approval. After that, your course registration will be finalized.
I clicked the “Confirm” button before finishing my course registration. What should I do?
Once the “Confirm” button has been clicked, the system does not allow students to add or drop courses. You must ensure that you have added or dropped all your courses before clicking the button. You can continue with course registration on the “Independent Course Add/Drop” day. If this happens again, you should send an email to the Department of Student Affairs at bioeng@yildiz.edu.tr.
I added my courses through the OBS system and finalized my registration. Do I need my advisor’s approval?
No, it is not required. After finalizing your registration, your course registration is automatically approved. You do not need to contact your academic advisor.
I cannot complete my course registration because the course I want to add is full. What should I do?
All course enrollment limits are determined by the department/program chair responsible for offering the course, and only that department/program can increase the course’s enrollment limit. Students registering for courses who encounter a problem can contact the Course Registration Officers listed on the department’s website or the department itself (via email).
You can email any issues regarding the enrollment capacity of courses with the BYM code to the Department Student Affairs Office at bioeng@yildiz.edu.tr. For issues regarding the enrollment capacity of courses with codes such as FIZ, MAT, MDB, ITB, etc., you should contact the student affairs office of the department offering the course. If your enrollment capacity issue persists, you should submit a written request to the department.
I received a “Tuition Payment” warning while registering for classes. What should I do?
To complete your course registration, you must first pay your tuition. To do so, please make your payment using the account number information published by the Office of Student Affairs, taking into account the dates listed in the Academic Calendar. Once you have paid your tuition, you can complete your course registration.
I was unable to add or drop courses due to issues with the internet, the system, course capacity, etc. What should I do?
You must send a signed petition to the Department Student Affairs office at bioeng@yildiz.edu.tr using your @yildiz.edu email address, stating your reason and specifying the course code, name, and section you wish to add or drop. If the department deems the reason you stated in your petition valid, the course will be added or dropped by the faculty. This process takes approximately two weeks after the petition is submitted. You must check your course schedule via the OBS system.
What should I do to take courses from the Bioengineering (0 English) program or other departments at the university?
Students who wish to select courses outside their curriculum from other departments at the university should first review the announcements on the Office of Student Affairs website and follow the guidelines provided there.
I am a first-year bioengineering student. How do I register for classes through the OBS system?
Course registration for required courses that first-year students must take during the semester is handled automatically by the system. However, students must add their elective courses (Elective 1 in the fall semester and Elective 2 in the spring semester) to the system themselves. If your course registration did not occur automatically, you should contact the Department of Student Affairs at bioeng@yildiz.edu.tr.
From which semesters can I select courses? Can I take courses from a higher semester?
Students may only take courses from the semester immediately above their own. First-year students cannot take courses from the third or fourth years, and second-year students cannot take courses from the fourth year.
I have completed my maximum study period; how can I register for courses?
The course registration schedule for students who have completed their maximum study period will be published on a separate date on the Office of Student Affairs’ webpage. Students who have completed their maximum study period must follow the announcements.
I want to improve my grade in a course I’ve taken before. How do I have the course count toward my requirements?
If you retake a course with the same course code that you’ve taken before, the system automatically counts it toward your requirements. After adding the course, click the “Additional Information” button on the right to view the course details. This screen displays the letter grade from your previous attempt. If you add a course from the elective course group that you haven’t taken before, you can substitute your new course for a previously taken course by clicking the “Substitute for this course” button. If you do not wish to substitute the course, you can add it by clicking the “Add as a new course without substitution” button. If you choose to count it toward a previous course, you can view the old course’s code and letter grade in the “Other Information” box for your new course. For more detailed information, please review the OBS Course Registration Guide.
I am a Dual Major Program (ÇAP) student. How can I register for courses for both departments?
Dual major students’ student ID numbers are created by adding the letter “Ç” to the beginning of their primary undergraduate program’s student ID number. Dual-major students must use the password and user ID from their primary undergraduate program to register via OBS for courses in both their primary undergraduate and dual-major programs during the same registration period. To do this, dual-major students can switch between their primary major and dual-major programs by clicking on “User Information” in the upper-right corner of the OBS screen and selecting the “Switch” option from the menu that appears. Dual-major students can view the curriculum information for each program separately. Dual-major students must complete the course registration process separately for each program. For detailed information, please review the OBS Course Registration Guide.
What is the total number of credits I need to take in a semester? Do I have to take all my credits?
The “Total Credits” information is located in the lower-left corner of the Add/Drop Courses screen. Students with a GPA of 3.00 or higher may take a total of 28 credits, while students with a GPA below 3.00 may take 25 credits. The total credit count indicates the maximum number of credits that can be taken that semester. Students are not required to take the maximum number of credits for a given semester. However, to be eligible for graduation, a student must successfully complete all courses, practicals, internships, and similar activities specified in the curriculum of their department or program, along with the designated local credits and a minimum of 240 ECTS credits, and maintain a weighted cumulative GPA of at least 2.00. In addition, undergraduate students whose AGNO has been below 2.0 for two consecutive semesters (starting from the 5th semester) may not take courses in their current semester or in subsequent semesters. These students may take courses from earlier semesters that they previously failed, as well as courses from earlier semesters that they have not yet taken. For detailed information, please review the YTÜ Course Registration and Selection Guidelines (DD-008).
Two of my courses conflict with each other. Can I add both courses?
Pursuant to the decision of our University Senate dated August 31, 2021, No. 07-02, “In the Fall semester of the 2021–2022 academic year, in the event of a schedule conflict in a student’s course schedule, provided that one of the conflicting courses is offered via distance learning, students may be permitted to select up to two conflicting courses; attendance requirements shall not apply to courses taken as make-up courses.” However, since the system does not permit the enrollment in overlapping courses, students wishing to take courses under this provision must submit a written request to the Department Chair of their registered program. Upon the favorable recommendation of the relevant Department Chair, these courses will be added by decision of the Faculty Administrative Board.
